I recently tried opening the Odysee.com LBRY desktop application on MX Linux, when I received this very generic "Error Starting up" message. I performed some Internet searches and was able to find this command that actually fixed this problem. You want to close the LBRY application.
Then in a command line window type this command:
sysctl kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone=1
You must have root privileges in order to enter in this command. You can log in as root and then type in this command or you can type in this command instead.
sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone=1
Obviously, you hit your enter key after enting in this command. Once this command was successfully entered, I was able to open up the LBRY application installed on this MX Linux desktop computer. However, I noticed that LBRY took quite a bit longer than usual to actually open.
I no longer received that very generic "Error Starting up" message. I was able to watch videos, upload videos, view my LBRY wallet, etc. I ran into one other problem.
The next time I logged off my user account on MX Linux, I received that very same generic "Error Starting up" message after LBRY application started up. I had to enter in the previous sysctl command again before LBRY application would work successfully. You could enter in sudo before that command.
Sudo command will prompt you to enter in your root password before the MX Linux operating system will attempt to process that commmand.
LBRY Application Error Starting Up Fix - Video Transcript
00:01
i recently
00:02
had difficulties opening up the library
00:06
application that you can install on
00:08
linux and i received this error on
00:11
screen it's a very generic error
00:13
it just obviously stipulates error
00:15
starting up
00:16
you can try refreshing to fix it if you
00:18
still have issues your antivirus
00:19
software firewall might be preventing
00:21
startup reach out to hello liberty.com
00:23
for help
00:24
anyways
00:25
i didn't waste time with the firewall or
00:27
this or the antivirus software because
00:31
i'm using linux well actually i do have
00:33
a firewall
00:34
enabled but i didn't waste time
00:36
troubleshooting that and i don't
00:38
need to worry about it viruses on linux
00:41
not yet anyways
00:44
what fixed it was i
00:46
performed some internet searches and i
00:48
found
00:50
this fix now this is for liberty which
00:52
is known as odyssey.com
00:55
and
00:56
you can install a desktop client
00:59
software on linux windows i'm not sure
01:02
about macintosh and possibly macintosh
01:05
anyways i digress
01:07
now what fixed it is i ended up
01:11
typing in this command
01:14
and you want to be real careful with
01:16
linux commands
01:19
you can enter in this command with sudo
01:22
which will actually prompt you to enter
01:24
your root password you must be root in
01:26
order to
01:28
successfully
01:30
trigger this command
01:32
it is
01:33
sysctl space kernel dot
01:36
un
01:38
privileged
01:39
unprivileged underscore
01:42
user uscrns underscore clone equals one
01:47
you just
01:49
type it in and enter it in and as long
01:52
as you do not receive an error that's
01:54
normal
01:55
on linux when when you just hit enter
01:58
and it may
02:01
echo the command or or it may not type
02:04
anything out nothing will display that's
02:07
normal if you see an error that's not
02:09
normal you know what i'm saying
02:11
the command took obviously
02:14
now one caveat when i either restarted
02:18
my computer or i think i logged out of
02:21
my desktop
02:23
and when i went to open up library again
02:25
the
02:26
application
02:27
it would not work i received that same
02:29
error so what i had to do is i had to
02:32
type that command in again and then
02:34
obviously hit enter and a suit so as
02:37
soon as you successfully enter in that
02:40
command you do not receive an error
02:43
i just tried to open up libre that
02:45
that's another caveat you want to close
02:47
library
02:48
application enter in the command it's
02:51
successful then open up
02:54
libri
02:56
and
02:58
that was the caveat
03:00
now i noticed another time i logged off
03:03
of my desktop and i didn't have to enter
03:05
that command in i'm not sure i just
03:07
whatever i just thought i'd let you know
03:09
that
03:10
one time i did log off and i had to
03:12
enter in that command again now after i
03:15
entered in that command it did take
03:18
liberty a while i noticed for like a few
03:20
days they were having some weird
03:22
problems however i performed some
03:24
searches and that fixed the issue i was
03:27
able to actually
03:28
access
03:29
liberty and it restored my wallet i was
03:33
able to watch videos i was able to
03:35
upload videos on odyssey.com and i was
03:38
able to earn some free crypto you know
03:42
what i'm saying by watching videos
03:46
hopefully this
03:48
will fix your issue if you ever see this
03:50
error again or maybe if you have any
03:52
kind of a library error
03:54
you can
03:55
try that command you know what i'm
03:57
saying
03:59
there's some kind of a privileges
04:01
problem
04:02
it says colonel dot unprivileged
04:04
underscore user ns i think that's short
04:07
for names user names and then clone
04:10
there's some kind of a
04:12
possible permission problem in it what
04:15
clones
04:17
so that it will work
04:19
i think liberty does need root to
04:22
install it but i don't think you're
04:24
supposed to run it as root yeah a lot of
04:27
times most programs you really shouldn't
04:28
be running as a root user on on linux
04:31
you know what i'm saying
04:33
adios
