You have downloaded the latest Apple iTunes software program, but when you try to install it, you get an error message: The Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed. You will want to log on to your computer as an administrator. Then you can click your “Start” button, and then click “Run”. In an “Open” box, type in CMD, and then click on OK.
You will want to then at a command prompt, type in “msiexec.exe /unregister” without quotations, and then press your ENTER key. Now you can type in “msiexec /regserver” without quotations, and then press your ENTER key. You will want to verify that a system account has full control access permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive in the Microsoft Windows operating system registry.
In some cases, you may also have to add administrator accounts. You will want to click your “Start” menu button, then click on “Run”. Now you can type regedit into an “Open” box, and then click on OK. You can click on the following registry hive: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
On that “Edit” menu, then click on “Permissions”. If system is not listed in a group or user names list, then you can click on “Add”. You will want to make sure that your local computer name appears in that “From this location” box.
Now you will want to type in “system” in that “Enter the object names to select” box, then click on “Check Names”. Now you can click on OK. Then you can click system in a group or user names list, and then select that “Full Control” check box under “Allow” in a permissions for system box. Now you will want to click Apply. Then you can click OK, and then quit the Microsoft Windows operating system registry editor.
You will want to make sure that s system account has full control access permissions to that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive in a Microsoft Windows operating system registry. I have included a sample image of what security permissions for a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive should look like. “Permissions for SYSTEM” should have check marks under “Allow” for “Full Control” and “Read”. If a “SYSTEM” entry does not exist under “Group or user names:” then you can follow these instructions below to add it. On an “Edit” menu, you will want to click on “Permissions”.
