Just recently, an update to Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1 continually fails and when you download that file to install it again. However, that fails also with the following error message. Internal error 2705 directory. What can you do about this you ask?
You have tried going to an update site and manually updating Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1, which ultimately fails. You tried removing that software, which fails as well. Then you tried to install it again to no avail.
By just installing Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1 service pack one patch should resolve this issue. You will want to install Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1 service pack one on that computer system and then install that Microsoft Windows operating system update. You can try booting Microsoft Windows operating system into safe mode if it will not install in normal mode.
If it will not install in Microsoft Windows operating system safe mode then you can click the Start menu icon. Then you will want to select Run. Now you can type the following commands below:
inet stop wuauserv
net stop bits
Another tactic to use is to Show hidden files, folders, and system files. You can follow these instructions in this previous link. Once hidden files, folders, and system files are no longer hidden you can procede with the remainder of these instructions helping you fix that Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1 update problem
Using Microsoft Windows operating system Windows Explorer, you will want to navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download folder. Then you will want to delete those contents of that Download subfolder. That is where they are first stored when downloaded unless there is not enough disk space on that hard drive in the first place.
After deleting any downloaded updates, you will need to shutdown and start that computer's operating system again and an AU service will load on the startup of that Microsoft Windows operating system. You might want to set that Microsoft Windows operating system service to Disabled until you can free up enough disk space or upgrade the physical random access memory, if possible. If you still cannot install that update to Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1, then you can run file and Microsoft Windows operating system registry scans.
You will want to download and install this free CCleaner computer optimization software program. You can then use CCleaner for cleaning your PC and registry cleaning. You may need to run both clean and registry scans more then once.
Once you have run file and registry cleaning scans then you can attempt to install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 service pack one again onto your computer. If that update fails again, you can attempt both check disk and system file check scans. Another option is to perform a Microsoft Windows operating system restore back to before you had problems installing Microsoft .Net Framework updates.
