Another request on this third party website where I earn supplemental income answering computer and technology related questions. This time I received another printer request. I only support printers in the sense of helping individuals hooking them up and installing software.
Here is the original request:
“I am trying to connect a printer and I am not sure where I have to go to connect. The error message I get icy can’t open the application Driver Update-setup (1) exe because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X. Does this mean that this printer will not go with this computer.
I am not computer savvy at all.”
This individual did NOT care if they were able to print over universal serial bus cable or wireless. Also, they were using an Apple Macintosh computer with MAC OS X 10.10 operating system. They were trying to connect a HP DeskJet 2652 printer.
Here is my response:
Click on the Apple Macintosh logo above. Select “About this MAC”. I need to know what version you have installed.
For example Apple MACOS 10.11. If not you can browse to this link below and it should automatically detect what Macintosh operating system you have installed. You can install your HP DeskJet 2652 printer software.
You have to download and install a driver for your MAC otherwise your printer will not work. If you noticed I asked them what version of Macintosh operating system they had installed. Hewlett Packard’s website is designed to automatically detect what operating system you have installed.
However, with individuals whom admit they are not computer savvy, it can save quite a bit of time and headaches to just provide a direct download link. Speaking of direct links, if you have Macintosh OS X 10.10 otherwise known as Yosemite, you can download software from this HP DeskJet 2652 printer software link. You should be able to just click on that link and you should be prompted to save it to your computer.
This individual had a bit of a problem I think knowing where to find this downloaded software. I provided some instructions with an image. All you have to do is click on the link to download.
You can use “Finder” to find your downloads. Finder is located in your Dock down below. Look for your “Downloads” folder.
Once you open up Finder you will see your Macintosh username on the left hand side. Click on your username to expand the contents. You should see a “Downloads” folder.
Refer to this image I just uploaded. This Macintosh user whom was NOT computer savvy was able to follow my instructions and successfully install the software driver for their HP DeskJet 2652 printer. They reported to me that they were able to print in color.
If you are NOT computer savvy there is no reason why you cannot install printer software. Here are some additional tips. Generally, I noticed with Hewlett Packard printers, that most times you must install the software first and then connect your printer.
Also, with my experiences as a computer technician most Hewlett Packard printers require you to install a driver from CD-ROM or an Internet download. Microsoft Windows does have a few printer drivers that come with their operating systems. However, most times with my experience most Hewlett Packard printers will NOT work out of the box so to speak.
I do NOT have nearly as much experience dealing with installing Hewlett Packard printers on Macintosh computers. Obviously, this was one of those cases, where you cannot just plug in your printer and begin printing in color no less. If in doubt I think it is always product to read your quick start guide that comes with Hewlett Packard printers.
This should NOT stop you from learning how to install printer software and or drivers on any computer operating system even Linux. Hopefully, this blog post helped you install HP DeskJet 2652 printer software on your Macintosh computer.

“I don’t believe it’s connected to the computer and I can’t find the disk and the printer is not listed when trying to connect it.”
This individual was referring to their Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 6700 Premium printer. My initial warning to you is that when it comes to Hewlett Packard printers, most times you do NOT want to hook up the printer to your computer first. You want to wait until you install the printer software suite.
The installation will prompt you when to hook up your printer. Here is the remainder of my response:
What operating system are you using? For example Apple Macintosh, Microsoft Windows 7, 8, or 10. You can download the complete printer software from this HP OfficeJet 6700 installation software link.
That web page should automatically detect your operating system. If that web page does not detect your correct operating system, then click on the “Change” button, choose your correct operating system and then click on that “Change” button again. Once you download this software to your computer, you will want to double click the file and proceed with the installation.
Wait until the installation asks you to connect your printer. This individual had a computer with Microsoft Windows 7 operating system installed. If you have Microsoft Windows 7 operating system installed you can download the HP OfficeJet 6700 installation software from that direct download link.
This individual confused me to a certain extent. They wanted to skip the Fax portion of this software. I did NOT know if they wanted to skip the installation of any faxing software module or skipping the setup of a Fax number.
I think when it comes to Hewlett Packard printers you cannot skip the configuration of a Fax number. I could be wrong. At the very least you could enter in a dummy number.
“If you only want the drivers (without the Full Software Suite), it is available as a separate download named HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer series – H711 Basic Driver.”
I don’t think you have a choice. Only option is to install the basic Hewlett Packard printer driver only and not the full suite. This individual was able to successfully install this software and I thought I was done being a serf for the evening.
Low and behold another problem arose. This time they received a warning that they needed to replace their color printer cartridges. They wanted to know if they could print with just their black printer cartridge also known as gray scale.
The answer to this is actually a paradox. Yes and no. Yes, you can print in gray scale only with this Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 6700 premium printer.
However, your color printer cartridges must NOT become empty. If they are low with toner than yes you can. I have no fucking idea why the discrepancy, but I did find this documented on an official Hewlett Packard web page.
These are the instructions to change the print settings to print with black ink only. This is known as gray scale. You may have to change your print settings every time you print, in order to print in gray scale.
Click “Print” in the software program you want to print from. Select your Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 6700 premium printer from the list of available printers. Look for and open the “Printer Properties” dialog box.
This can be called “Printer Properties”, “Options”, “Printer Setup”, “Printer”, or “Preferences”. Click on the “Features” tab. You want to click the “gray scale” drop down menu.
Now click on “Black Ink Only”. You can use even less black ink by selecting the “Draft” setting. Click on “OK”. Now you want to click “Print” to print a test page.
This individual was now able to print successfully on their Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 6700 premium printer. These instructions were written primarily for Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, but can certainly be used as a basis point for other Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Basically, the only printer issues I deal with are new printer installs and installation of printer software. Here is the original request:
“I am trying to install an installation disc on my computer, and it is saying contact my administrator. HP photosmart 335.”
Here is my response. What operating system are you using? For example Microsoft Windows 7, 8, or 10.
You can download that HP Photosmart 335 software for your printer. This Hewlett Packard printer supports Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 8, and Microsoft Windows 10 operating systems. You notice how I did NOT waste time fucking around trying to help them get the software installed from the CD-ROM?
I cut to the chase and offered them a download. When you browse that link above, your computer operating system should be detected. If it is NOT, make certain you choose the operating system you are using.
You can click on “Change”. Expand “driver product installation software” and you should see your software download. Newer operating systems like Windows 7, 8, and 10 might not have a software download. This is one of the few times I have run across a Hewlett Packard printer installation where you first connect the printer and then allow Microsoft Windows to load a driver.
Make certain you choose the correct version of software if their is a download available. X86 32 bit or x64 64 bit download. If your operating system does NOT have a download available, then you can install it by first connecting your Hewlett Packard Photo Smart 335 printer to your computer.
Once you finished downloading the installer, double click it to begin the printer installation. Follow the on screen prompts and do NOT connect your Hewlett Packard printer until instructed. If you do NOT see a printer download this means you must add your printer from with in Microsoft Windows operating system.
Connect your printer to your computer with a universal serial bus cable or through your local network so that Microsoft Windows operating system can detect your printer during this print driver installation. Now you want to open up “Add a printer” wizard. You can find this wizard in “Control Panel”.
Now you want to test the driver installation. Try to print a test page. Also, try to perform a test scan.
If all goes well and the driver installed successfully, then you should be able to both print and scan. These instructions were written for Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 8, and Microsoft Windows 10 operating systems. These are general instructions pointing you to the right direction.
As long as you know how to browse to “Control Panel” you should be able to follow a long. You can always type in “control panel” without quotes into a search bar in which ever Microsoft Windows operating system you are using, if you do NOT know how to browse to control panel directly.
I recently purchased a TP Link TL-WN881ND wireless card. This wireless card is designed for desktop computers. It came with two short 2 decibel antennas.
I purchased this wireless adapter at a local computer store. I just needed a basic wireless adapter for one of my office computers. The packaging does NOT stipulate that this device is compatible with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system.
However, I quickly installed this on a quad core computer with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system installed and low and behold this device was detected. This is a 802.11 N wireless adapter. This wireless adapter included a CD-ROM disc, quick installation guide, and technical support guide.
Also, included was a bracket so that you could install this wireless adapter in a small form factor personal computer. This TP Link TL-Wn881ND is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, and Microsoft Windows 8 operating systems. Also, both x86 32 bit and x64 64 bit operating systems are supported.
This wireless adapter has a PCI express interface, which is another reason why I purchased it. This device supports up to 300 megabits per second, which I have never been able to obtain. However, the installation on a computer with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system installed, was a breeze.
You can install this wireless card in a PCI peripheral component interconnect express X1, X4, X8, and X16 slots. I had already verified my Gigabyte motherboard had a vacant X1 PCI express slot. For testing purposes I installed the two short 2 decibel antennas that were included.
I did NOT have to install the supplied drivers. Microsoft Windows 10 operating system had loaded a Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 driver. I was able to connect to an xfinitywifi access point with in seconds.
This PCI peripheral component interconnect express wireless adapter connected at 144.4 megabits per second which is quite normal for these types of wireless cards. I have never been able to connect at 300 megabits per second. Some individuals claim that most wireless 802.11 N cards never will connect at 300 megabits per second.
Over all I was quite pleased with how easy it was for me to install this TP Link TL-WN881ND wireless adapter in Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. The signal strength was not the greatest with the supplied antennas. I received only two to three bars.
There can be many reasons why the signal strength is this weak. TP Link’s official web page claims that Microsoft Windows 10 operating system is not supported. However, I proved otherwise. The weak signal could have been do to wireless interference in this building.
Also, these two 2 decibel antennas are replaceable. I tested the signal quality with an xfinitywifi broadcast identification. I currently do NOT have broadband or digital subscriber line Internet access.
I have an older Belkin MIMO G wireless router and I receive a strong wireless signal from that router. Perhaps the fact this wireless G router is in the next room, could be the reason. You can purchase longer and higher decibel TP-link wireless antennas.
I was NOT able to find out what the highest decibel antenna that this TP Link TL-WN881ND wireless adapter card will support. However, I have seen nine decibel antennas listed on their official website. An antenna upgrade could possibly help create a stronger wireless signal.
You might want to make certain that an antenna upgrade is compatible with this TP-Link wireless card before you purchase.

Another computer problem in the world order. This time a bit of a strange problem at least in my opinion. I received another request on a third party website whereby I earn supplemental income answering computer and technology related questions.
Here is this request:
“I have an HP PhotoSmart Premium printer. I had it connected to my printer wireless – NEVER VIA a USB. Geek Squad cleaned up some corrupt print files and deleted the HP Print Center which sits on my PC.
When I try to install from a download or original disk, it say “you don’t have appropriate USB drivers”. HELP please.”
This is an ugly error message. However, I was able to install the HP Solution Center software successfully. This individual owned a C309N Hewlett Packard printer.
For whatever brilliant idea, Hewlett Packard now ships a USBready.exe tool that is supposed to test your computer for USB compliance. However, this is NOT an isolated incident of people receiving this error. It is NOT exclusive to just one model of HP printer either.
You are supposed to browse to the most recent temporary file for the HP Solution Center installation. Type in the following into a run box on Microsoft Windows operating systems. This individual had a Lenovo computer with Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

This should take you to the Temp folder where the Hewlett Packard Solution Center install begins. A usbready.exe file gets copied to temporary space. Look for a folder that starts with 7z.
Here is an example folder 7zs1234. You want to browse into this folder and then browse to a “Setup” folder. Look for the usbready.exe file.
One recommendation is to rename this file before you click “Next” during the installation of this Hewlett Packard Solution Center software. This tactic did NOT work for me. What happened instead is that the installation program started the usbready.exe program, which caused this “This Computer Does Not Have The Necessary USB Software Support” error message.
I think this is poor development by Hewlett Packard. Did these clowns forget that many Hewlett Packard customer want to connect to their printers via wireless or blue tooth? At the very least this USB compliance test should NOT begin until after you choose the type of installation.
I was able to bypass this usbready.exe program by moving this file out of this temporary folder. Then I clicked the first “Next” prompt and sure enough this installation ignored this USB compliance test. Also, you could just delete this usbready.exe file.
Maybe I did NOT rename this file quick enough the first time? Who knows, I do NOT know. However, the second attempt I moved this file out of the “Setup” folder under the 7z***** temporary folder. Let me warn you now that Hewlett Packard Solution Center software installs take for fucking ever.
I am talking at least an hour on average. Also, here is a gold tip. Do NOT ever hook up your Hewlett Packard printer to your computer first. Always, wait until the Hewlett Packard Solution Center install prompts you before you hook up your printer. Obviously, this was a network installation, but still this is a valuable tip.
Many Hewlett Packard customers first inclination is to hook up their newly purchased printer to their computer and away they go printing. Wrong. This can cause many problems when you do install the Hewlett Packard Control Center software.
The installation gets confused because Microsoft Windows would have already loaded a printer driver. Anyways, you should be able to perform a network installation now that you have bypassed this ridiculous usbready.exe fiasco. Also, I have an older HP office jet 7410 all in one printer and the Hewlett Packard Solution Center install interface looks almost the same accept thankfully this usbready.exe program is not included with that install.
One final note before I run into the ether. This usbready.exe program was included with the installation CD-ROM that came with this Hewlett Packard C309N all in one printer. Unfortunately, the downloadable version of this software also includes this usbready.exe file.
What you could possibly do is copy the contents of the CD-ROM into a folder on your hard drive. Then browse I think to the Setup folder and delete the usbready.exe file. Also, you could search for this file and delete and then try the installation and see if it skips this USB compliance test.
These instructions were written for a Hewlett Packard C309N printer make can certainly be used as a basis point for other Hewlett Printer models.
Another request from a third party website where I earn supplemental income. This individual wanted to try to get a Logitech HD laptop webcam C615 to work on a Macintosh computer. This is the initial request:
“I have a Macbook Pro laptop I’m trying to connect a Logitech webcam and headphones so i can teach online. Nothing is being recognized. I don’t know what to do.”
Technically, the Logitech HD Laptop Webcam C615 is NOT supported for newer Macintosh operating systems. The latest software download is dated 04/13/2011. Also, it only supports Macintosh operating systems 10.5-10.6 which would be Leopard and Snow Leopard respectfully.
This individual had Macintosh operating system 10.13.3 which is High Sierra. Even though this Macintosh operating system is NOT officially supported I was able to get this webcam to work. Actually, this individual had already performed most of the work, by the time I was able to remotely connect to their Macintosh computer.
Here is my response:
Make certain you close any programs that can access your webcam. Also, close any previous installation attempts.
It might be easier just to unplug your webcam. Restart your MAC and connect your webcam.
I was able to go into Macintosh system properties, by clicking the Apple Macintosh icon and then choosing “About this MAC”. I scrolled down and looked under “USB devices” and Camera. A Logitech C615 was listed as being detected.
You can download Logitech HD Laptop Webcam C615 software. This software was successfully added to the Applications folder. However, every time I would open up this Logitech software it would tell me that “This webcam is currently in use by another program. Please reconnect”.
This was a false positive error of sorts. I think this error is an indication that software like Facetime may have been open or opened. I advised this individual to restart their Macintosh and see if this error disappeared.
They did NOT want to since they wanted to make sure they were in contact with me. I think it is possible that other Macintosh software was open or did NOT close properly that had access to this Logitech C615 webcam. I was able to go into both Facetime and Photo Booth applications and choose the Logitech C615 webcam.
In both programs the webcam functioned correctly. Also, I was able to select the Logitech headphones successfully. All, you do is change the webcam video source and audio source.
Even though officially this webcam is NOT supported in High Sierra it still works. Perhaps that is why you will get that “…currently in use…” error. Who knows, I do NOT know as this individual never restarted this Macintosh, while I was helping them.
Here is a gold tip, research your hardware purchases before you buy them. I think this individual had already purchased this webcam and was just trying to extend the life out of it. However, if you are thinking of making a hardware purchase, ALWAYS find out what types of computer hardware and operating systems are supported.
You can save yourself a lot of time and potentially money, if not your fucking sanity.
Another computer fiasco in the information technology world order. Let me cut to the chase immediately in this blog post. Microsoft is notorious for NOT supporting certain hardware or in this a cable.
I earn supplemental income on a website where I answer computer and technology related questions. Here is the initial request:
“I have Idea Pad 330 and an external Think Center monitor. I installed the latest update to windows 10 and the BIOS, Ideapad still doesn’t recognize monitor. Is there a specific driver to install and how do I get to it to download and install?”
I will spare you some agony. I was NOT able to fix this DisplayPort to HDMI not working problem on a computer with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. It is possible that Microsoft has not release drivers or is compatible with Display Port to HDMI cables.
In this instance this individual had an HDMI connection on their Lenovo Idea Pad 330 laptop. They had a Think Center TIO 21.5 inch touch monitor with just a Display Port connection. This client took my advice and is going to try to exchange this computer monitor for one with an HDMI connection.
I will post the troubleshooting steps that I performed. However, keep in mind you may not be able to fix your DisplayPort to HDMI Not Working problem. In the future Microsoft could start supporting these types of cables or it will just start working.
I have been able to get certain hardware to work with Windows 10 operating system, even though this hardware was older or that it was NOT officially supported. Here is my response:
Have you tried going into Device Manager to see if that monitor is being detected? Also, if you are connecting your laptop to your monitor via HDMI cable it might get detected easier by hooking it up first and then booting into Windows 10. Another thing you can try is looking for the FN key and F10 keys.
Press the FN key and then the F10, this is supposed to make Windows use the external monitor. You may need to press these keys twice. Can you try pressing FN F10 and choosing those options until one works.
There might be buttons on the monitor itself that allows you to change the connector type. Is display port the only connector on that monitor? Another trick you can try is shutdown your laptop.
Leave your monitor turned on. Close the lid on your laptop. If you cannot power it on without opening the lid, then quickly power on the laptop and close the lid.
This should force your laptop to used your external monitor. Now see if Windows 10 detects it and it works. Yes, I would try the previous instructions.
Shutdown the laptop. Power on laptop, immediately close lid. See if it forced the external monitor to work.
I am searching to see if it is the HDMI to DisplayPort. I think you said you had two cables? Can you try the other one?
Can you press the windows key + P. How many options are available? I have an external monitor connected.
I have four options to choose from:
PC Screen only
Duplicate
Extend
Second screen only
Will it let you choose one of the last three? It detects your IBM monitor. You should be able to just left click on one of those choices and it should start working.
It could be a drivers issue with your graphics device. Also, it could be many reasons why. You might just want to buy an HDMI monitor to go with your HDMI laptop.
I had a recent customer that was running out of hard drive space on their Macintosh computer. They wanted to hook up an external hard drive, so that they could transfer files and free up disk space. Here is their initial request:
Running out of memory on my Macbook Pro because I am importing a large number of videos. How to use my external hard drive for storage. I have tried deleting current large storage items.
I have an external drive and want to use this to store movies and photos.
I think what they meant to say was that they were running out of disk space. As a computer technician you learn also to interpret statements that may not be one hundred percent accurate. Anyways, here is my response to their request.
You will need to format your external hard drive so that your MAC can access it first, if you have not done so already. I did NOT need to remotely connect into their Macintosh computer and format the drive myself. This customer was able to figure it out on their own.
Perhaps, they just did NOT realize that it needed to get formatted first. When formatting an external hard drive you are just basically preparing it for use on that specific operating system. A computer operating system will NOT be able to read and write from a hard drive, until it is formatted.
This customer had purchased a Lacie external hard drive. Here are some quick instructions for formatting an external hard drive in Macintosh operating system. First you want to hook up your external hard drive and make sure it is mounted.
You can hook up your external hard drive and then boot into Macintosh operating system. You want to use the “Finder”. Select “Go” and then “Utilities”. Choose “Disk Utility”.
In Disk Utility, select the hard drive you want to format. Make certain that you select the correct external hard drive. You do NOT want to accidentally format your hard drive that has Macintosh operating system installed on.
Click on the “Erase” tab from the top menu. Under the “Volume Format” drop down menu, you want to choose “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”. Type in a name for your external hard drive.
Finally, click on the “Erase…” button down below. Congratulations, you have successfully formatted your external hard drive. Now you should be able to read and write data from/to this external hard drive.
Another computer support request in the world order. This time a customer needed some help with Linux. I do NOT often receive that many support requests for Linux.
Here is their request:
Hi and I can’t seem to get the drivers downloaded for the WF-3720 Epson to Linux.
There can be a steep learning curve with Linux. However, I have used Linux for around fifteen years now. Actually, I am almost more comfortable using Linux compared to Apple Macintosh or Microsoft Windows operating systems. I was able to find a suitable Epson WF 3720 printer driver for Linux Mint version 18.1.
Linux can be a pain in the ass to find hardware drivers for. Here is my response to this Linux support request. You can try to download this Epson WF 3720 generic printer driver. You will need click on “I agree” to view a list of drivers.
NOTE: This direct link was removed NOT too long after I originally wrote this blog post. You will need to click on the link above. Type in “3720” into a search box. To the right of the search box their is a drop down menu.
Choose “Linux” from that list and click on the search icon. You will now be able to see the Linux printer driver. Click on “Download”.
You will need to login with your root account or root credentials. Also, you will need to install LSB version 3.2 or newer first.
apt-get install lsb
Since your using Linux Mint you want to select the correct .deb package. epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.0.15-1lsb3.2_i386.deb for Intel processor or epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.0.15-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb for AMD. This individual was using a Dell Inspiron computer with an Intel chip set. Also, this individual requested that I remotely connect and install the driver.
I ran into a few road blocks but was able to finally get the driver installed. First of all Linux can be a bitch when it comes to driver dependencies. Initially, I installed lsb successfully but had to remove it.
I received this error after installing LSB and while trying to install the “epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.0.15-1lsb3.2_i386.deb” driver both via the graphical user interface and command line. Many times I prefer installing hardware drivers and software on Linux via command line, because at least for me the errors are displayed right away. When trying to install via the graphical user interface, Linux errors are NOT necessarily in your face so to speak.
The Package System is broken
epson-inkjet-printer-201303w:i386: Depends: lsb(>=3.2) but 4.1+Debian11ubuntu is installed
I fixed this dependency issue by submitting the following command. This command removed a partially installed Epson WF 3720 driver. I have no fucking idea why, but this driver would partially get installed even though there was a dependency problem.
apt-get -f install
Then the partial driver was successfully removed and I was able to successfully install this Epson WF 3720 driver on Linux Mint 18.1 with this command.
apt-get install printer-driver-escpr
I no longer received that dependency error and was able to submit printing a test page. The only remaining task was the individual had to make sure this printer was set to default. Also, this printer was connected via the network.
I configured this printer as a network connected printer.
I received another positive rating, on a third party website where I earn supplementary income answering computer related questions. The customer question is below:
I have an HP Pavilion G7 Notebook PC and it uses a Windows 7 operating system. I have not used the Notebook in three years. I need to reinstall a operating system, which I don’t have the Hard Disk.
Can I purchase a Hard Disk? All I get on my screen is Hard Disk Not Exist. I can’t even connect to my wireless internet.
My answer is as follows. Please disconnect the power cable from both the back of that laptop and wall outlet. Also, take out the battery.
Press the power button for 30 seconds. Now plug the power cable to laptop and wall outlet. Make sure that you do not have any other devices attached ie external hard drive, USB flash drive, printer, etc.
Press the power button and see if it will boot successfully now. If you still receive that error, you can enter the BIOS and look to see if the hard drive is being detected. If the BIOS does not detect that hard drive, then you can take out the hard drive and reinsert it.
Sometimes just reseating a laptop hard drive will clear up errors like that. If you need more detailed information on how to enter the BIOS and or take out the hard drive I can give you instructions. Entering the computer’s BIOS depends on the manufacturer.
Generally, you can enter the Basic Input Output System on Hewlett Packard computers by pressing the F10 key as soon as that computer powers on. On older notebook and laptop computers the hard drive will be underneath a small cover either on the bottom or side. Newer laptops hard drives are located under the bottom cover.
All you have to do is once you remove the hard drive cover, is to disconnect the hard drive and then reconnect it.
